I drew the artwork for Günther "Henri" Freiherr von Maltzahn.
Yes, October 20 is his birthday. If you like it, I'm really glad ;-)

Happy birthday to Henri von Maltzahn（again）!

On this day is Günther Freiherr von Maltzahn. If he lived yet, he would become 106 years old on this year. If he alived... Happy birthday to Henri!

He was liked by his subordinates and his superiors as great commander and gentle character man. And he joined "Fighter Pilots' Revolt incident" against Hermann Göring. The end of war, he moved in his land Germany by an order, and went to the place at Germany which his wife's sister lives in. Though he wanted to continuing the battle as one of the German pilot, but he was captured by the US army. Soon, he became free again.
The sadly event that happened to his father in 1945, maybe you can imagine from people under the battle of Berlin. And the tragedy of Demmin happened. Henri's 2 brothers already have died in the war.

In post war, He began to learn the agriculture for his family's land. And this after, He had managed a winery. Next he work in the "Amt Blank"which is a forerunner of the Federal Ministry of Defence. Ex-Luftwaffe members called him as the one of a leader to reconstruction of the German Air Force.  I found on Wikipedia that he was a candidate for the position of Inspekteur der Bundesluftwaffe(空軍総監) of the German Air Force. His death is too early.

when I found one of a photo, I was thinking that I'd like to draw it. This is the event photo of JG 53, and a man like mafia with white suit and hat is...Yes, Fürst.
These are humor or Joke sketch for my interest. I wonder if I can categorize it to Luftwaffe or WWII sketch...lol.

He was most known for Fighter Pilots' Revolt and was known as the best beautiful man(according to info) in Luftwaffe.

Colorized Wolf Dietrich "Fürst" Wilcke "フュルスト"・ヴィルケをカラー化してみる。

Before I wrote about JG53 "Pik-As" episode.
I tried to coloring of "Fürst" Wilcke who was the ace of JG53. Well, it's rough work, but I enjoyed it for my holiday. By the way, I already made the colorized Hans-Joachim Marseille :-)

1910 on this day(20 October ), Luftwaffe's Commander of JG53(Geschwaderkommodore des Jagdgeschwaders 53), Commander of Jagdfliegerführer Oberitalien,  and 68 victories' ace pilot which is the winner of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves(Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes mit Eichenlaub), Günther "Henri" Freiherr von Maltzahn was born in Wodarg near Demmin, Pommern.

Bf109 without Swastika is the sign of protest by JG53.

Hello everyone!

You already knew that...An interesting episode of JG53 Pik-As(Ace of Spades) is a mark of protest against the red band.

This commander Major Hans-Jürgen von Cramon-Taubadel's 1st wife was Jewish woman. Hermann Göring found it and ordered to paint the red band which is the Cabalistic talisman to all JG53 aircrafts. JG53 members fought in the Battle of Britain with the red band aircraft.

Later, Major Günther Freiherr von Maltzahn took over JG53 commander from von Cramon-Taubadel on 30 Sep 1940. "Pik-As" emblem was reinstated, but they(especially Wilcke) removed Swastika from their aircrafts as a mark of protest.

I was surprised to this episode because it was wartime germany. It was good action for discrimination.

I painted cheerful Luftwaffe Hauptmann J after so long. I was drawing the Austro-Hungarian uniform series(I will keep to draw that), so I've forgotten many infos...haha.

He is my original character and has natural curly-haired.

Sometimes, no, he often says joke and imagines various funny ideas

(even if he is flying in the sky).

I'm thinking about his funny story...

Though I'd like to know more about "Henri" von Maltzahn history...

　Diaryやtwitterの方ではお知らせしていますが、以前、運営中のマルセイユbotの中で紹介させて頂いた歴史家ジェームス·ディーン·サンダーソンによる歴史短編小説集「Behind Enemy Lines (1960)」の中のハンス＝ヨアヒム·マルセイユ大尉の物語（個人的に翻訳したもの）「史上最高のエース」を折角ですのでnoteに載せてみました。翻訳とはいえ、人様の書かれたものですので迷いましたが、これがサンダーソンさんの他の短編を読んでみる一つのきっかけになれば嬉しいです。他にロンメル元帥の話などが収められています。

Yesterday I received new book “The Star of Africa” which is written by Author Colin D. Heaton and Author Anne-Marie Lewis. Though I have read a few pages yet, I can find Hans-Joachim “Jochen” Marseille’s specially bad (but wonderful) boy character. Of course, Historians would enjoy it, as well as various readers who are interested in WWII history...I felt so.

I wished to know about funny other episodes of Steinhoff and Jochen, so I've read around P17 with a sense of amusement at first. Jochen was drinking alcohol while watching the phone and so he was ordered to flight ban from his commander Oberst Herbert Ihlefeld. He has never disappointed my expectation, lol. He was a man who is impossible to hate. But well, Macki was not satisfactory…haha.

Anyway, I think I would enjoy this book slowly.

フォン・ヴェーデル中佐と彼の家 Memo about Erich Rüdiger von Wedel

I'm reading the book "Der Kommandeur by Heinz-Georg Wilhelm Migeod" very slowly. Though I've studied German words, my skill is poor...OMG.

When it's reading, I found certain young German officer who fought in WWI and WWII. The officer talked to him about Hermann von François in Schlacht bei Tannenberg 1914, etc.
Herr Migeod says that "The young cavalry officer who was wrapped in a veil" to him. Herr Migeod wrote "I met at POW camp with him". His name was Erich Rüdiger von Wedel（1892-1954） . He was a member of Jasta 11 of Richthofen.

So I tried to search von Wedel, and I found so sad article. Once his house "Grossgut" was very beautiful...but now it is broken.

The last two shots of Luftwaffe Captain Hans-Joachim Marseille in the late afternoon of the 29 September 1942. He was doing a paperwork in his time at Quotaifiya airfield. And next day, he passed away for the accident. He was 22 years old. (From W. Wubbe)

コルト・マルテーゼとリヒトホーフェン Corto Maltese and von Richthofen by Hugo Pratt

Hi all,

I just knew that Hugo Pratt's main charactor Corto Maltese plays opposite to Red Baron(Barone Rosso) Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen. It was interesting.  Especially, Platt's lines are so cool.

H・プラットのバンド・デシネに出てくる格好いい主人公コルト・マルテーゼ（Corto Maltese）、本当に素敵なんです。時は第一次世界大戦～ロシア革命の頃なので、この時代に興味がある方にもおすすめです。何せ、相棒がラスプーチンですし。レッド・バロンことマンフレート・フォン・リヒトホーフェンが登場します。
